The area is bordered on the west by the residential neighborhoods that climb toward the hillside and on the east by the lake shore, making it easy to navigate even for visitors who are discovering Stresa for the first time. Within a few minutes on foot you can reach the boarding area for the Borromean Islands, the main historic hotels, and the most iconic attractions of the town.
How to reach the historic center
The historic center is easily reachable on foot from the main access points to the town.
- From Stresa railway station: About 300 to 600 meters, which corresponds to a walk of about 5 to 8 minutes along Corso Umberto I toward the lake.
- From the ferry area for the Borromean Islands: About 100 to 300 meters, equal to 2 to 5 minutes on foot depending on the area of the center you want to reach.
- From the parking areas of Piazza Marconi near the lakeside: The historic center is directly adjacent and can be reached in about 1 to 3 minutes on foot.
- By train: If you arrive at Stresa railway station, the historic center can be reached with a short and flat walk along Corso Umberto I, the main street leading directly to the lakeside.
- By car: Public parking areas are available in the central part of town, especially near the lakeside and Piazza Marconi. After parking your car, the historic center can be reached within a few minutes on foot.
For a complete visit at least three hours are recommended, although taking more time is the best way to enjoy the atmosphere and stop in one of the typical cafés or restaurants.
Most of the area can be easily explored on foot and includes limited traffic zones that are ideal for relaxed walks.
