Stresa–Mottarone 1935 Exhibition
From 1 to 28 February 2026, Stresa will host a historical exhibition of great cultural and sporting value: “Stresa–Mottarone 1935, the first international giant slalom in Italy”, organized by the Le Stresiane Association in conjunction with the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics.
The exhibition retraces a key event in the history of Italian and international skiing: the 1935 race on Mottarone, considered the first giant slalom ever held in Italy and one of the earliest modern competitions of this discipline in Europe.
An exhibition between sport, history and local identity
Through vintage photographs, documents, testimonies and historical materials, the exhibition tells not only the story of the birth of giant slalom, but also the central role that Stresa and Mottarone played in the development of winter tourism and snow sports.
The initiative is part of the cultural program linked to the Winter Olympics and offers visitors the opportunity to rediscover the sporting roots of the area and the deep connection between Lake Maggiore and the mountains.
